Review: Australis Multi MEGA Lash Mascara

A little while ago I won a competition run by Australis (they do weekly competitions via their facebook and twitter, which is awesome!) and was sent a pair of one earz headphones and a Multi Mega Lash Mascara. So I thought I would review the mascara which is part of the new Australis ‘All Sorts’ Mascara range.

The Australis website says:

“The ‘it and a bit’ mascara for defined and dramatic lashes that last all day. The mega brush simply coats lashes in one stroke. Keeps lashes light and flexible with maximum pigment rich payoff.

Why we love it; A fast-drying finish for smudge-free, clump-free lashes! Contains easy wash-off tubing formulation for no ‘panda eyes'”

I was so happy with this mascara. It gave really big lashes without clumping. Some people might not like the mascara for everyday use but I love big statement lashes so I wear it all the time.

It has a really big chunky brush, and quite a long mascara tube.

Have you tried any of the Australis All Sorts Mascaras?

Red Lipstick Collection

As you may have guessed from the title of my blog, I adore red lipstick! So I thought I would do a blog post showing my collection of red lipsticks and what my favourite ones are!

Most of the lipsticks are cheaper brands although I have a couple of high end ones too.

First up- Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in 090 True Red.

Image

This lipstick is a nice blue based red that goes on very smoothly. It’s a super glossy very true red with a creamy formula. It does tend to bleed a little if you don’t have time to do a lot of prep and isn’t the longest wearing lipstick out there. I really do like this lipstick but as a red lipstick connoisseur it’s not my favourite!

Second- Covergirl Lipstick in 575 Really Red

Image

This lipstick has more pink undertones than some of my other red lipsticks, but still has nice colour payoff. It’s not as glossy as the Revlon lipstick but it’s not matte either. It does feel quite moisturising on the lips and lasts quite a while. However as I prefer more blue based reds I’m not a fan of this compared to my other red lipsticks.

Third- Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 530 Fatal Red

Image

This lipstick looks a bit similar to the Revlon lipstick, but it’s a tad darker and more of a true red I think. It’s also not as glossy as the Revlon, which is good because I’m not that keen on super glossy/shiny lips. It’s pretty creamy and feel nice on the lips but doesn’t stay too long. I have to reapply this quite a few times a day if I wear it unfortunately!

Fourth-  Mary Kay Signature Lipstick in Red Salsa

Image

This Mary Kay lipstick is another solid red lipstick, but once again not a favourite! It has pinky undertones but is redder than the Covergirl lipstick. It can dry your lips out a little but I didn’t find it too bad. It has a fairly good coverage and staying power.

This lipstick is actually discontinued now I believe, and I got it as a gift so I don’t even know what you would have paid for it at the time.

Fifth- M.A.C Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo

Image

Ruby Woo! My ultimate red lipstick. It’s a matte, blue based true red that reminds me of Hollywood movie stars from the 50s. It stays on like a dream and is the perfect red colour for me. It can dry my lips out slightly but nothing too bad.

Sixth- L’Oreal Paris Glass Shine in Chrome Red

Image

This isn’t actually a lipstick, it’s more a cross between a lip stain and a lip gloss. It’s a very pinky red and super glassy (hence the name Glass Shine!). The thing with this is that you can build it up so if you don’t want a strong red you can go for a softer shade.

Here’s a picture of the shades swatched next to each other:

(Order: Revlon in True Red, Covergirl in Really Red, Maybelline in Fatal Red, Mary Kay in Red Salsa, M.A.C. in Ruby Woo, L’Oreal Paris in Chrome Red)

All in all my absolute favourite is Ruby Woo, followed closely by Maybelline’s Fatal Red.

What is your favourite red lipstick?

Tutorial: Galaxy/Nebula Nails!

So for my first post I thought I would do a tutorial! Usually I’m terrible at nail art, but this was so easy and the effect was amazing! Here’s what ‘Galaxy Nails’ look like:

ImageImage

All you need for this nail look is a black nail polish, a range of brightly coloured polishes, a glitter polish and a cosmetic sponge!

I used TEN polishes in total when doing my galaxy nails, including a base coat, two glitter polishes and a top coat. Here they all are:

ImageImage

First start off with a base coat to protect your nails, then with a plain black polish. I used OPI Natural Nail Base Coat and Rimmel 60 Second polish in Black Out.

Image

Then you take a cosmetic sponge and your first colour- use a fairly light pale colour first. This colour will be completely covered up by your other bright colours. I used NYC Color in Angel, which is a white with a gold shimmer in it. Take some of your colour on the sponge and dab it onto the nail. This will form the base of your nebula. It doesn’t have to be uniform- just across some of the nail.

Image

Then I used the sponge to layer on two more colours, Rimmel London’s Sky High and Azure.

ImageImage

Then do the same with more bright colours. I used Rimmel’s Purple Reign and NYC Color’s Shocking Pink.

ImageImage

Then I go back and blend in any other colours, then add glitter! I used two glitter polishes, NYC Color’s Sprinkles and BYS Black Sparkle. To top it off use a top coat (I used OPI’s Rapid Dry Top Coat). Image

Ta da! Galaxy Nails. Hopefully you found this helpful! 🙂

Welcome!

Welcome to Red Lips and Large Hips, my foray into the world of beauty blogging.

I’m a final year Journalism/Arts student from Canberra who adores beauty and fashion (but has a student’s budget!).

My style is a little rock n roll or grungy, then at times classic. So you won’t be seeing the latest tight and bright styles, more muted tones with pops of colour.

Little bits of lifestyle blogging may pop up sometimes too.

Hope you enjoy and feel free to comment on posts or contact me if you have any suggestions.
